According to the economic publication of the Byblos Bank Group, it has been reported that the World Bank has said that the broadband services in Lebanon are very weak yet very expensive with low penetration levels. It has also been noticed that because of this condition of the broadband the over all development of the country is falling into trouble. It is leading to loss of jobs overseas with excellent and cheap communication services.

The increasing competition between various wholesale broadband segments of the market has made it impossible to grow the international connectivity with out lowering the prices. Due to the high rates, Lebanon has the lowest bandwidth capacity in this region and lower profits. This situation of not making bandwidth networks and services available will delay and widen the productivity and development rates of the Mideast region with a future negative impact on the economic development of the country.

According to the world bank the introduction of broadband network and services have benefitted many countries in their long term growth but it is increasingly affecting Lebanon’s economic growth which can be very harmful for the over all development. Now the World Bank is trying some or the other ways to increase the impact of broadband in Lebanon and make it a positive step for the country.
